From Glasgow to Mijas: A Leap of Faith
Ryan’s story begins in Bishopton, a quiet family town near Glasgow. Like many young families, life was good, a beautiful home, growing business, and a close-knit community. But something was missing. After several visits to the Costa del Sol, Ryan and Louise found themselves saying, “We could live here.”
That spark grew into a life-changing decision. In 2024, they sold their home, their furniture, and nearly everything they owned, packing only five suitcases and moving their young family to Mijas, a charming coastal area between Málaga and Marbella.
Building a Business That Fits Life, Not the Other Way Around
As the founder of a successful online coaching business, Ryan helps women lose weight, build confidence, and reclaim their energy without sacrificing family time. His company, Real World Results, was already thriving in the UK, but like many digital entrepreneurs, he realized he didn’t need to stay tied to one location to succeed.
“I used to chase more, more clients, more money, more things,” Ryan shared. “But it wasn’t aligned. Letting go of possessions gave me freedom.”
Now, Ryan runs his business remotely from Spain. With fewer distractions and more sunshine, he’s found renewed energy and focus. His coaching brand, @coachryanatkin, continues to grow — powered by authenticity, relatability, and a genuine connection with clients around the world.
Trading Comfort for Growth
Moving abroad wasn’t easy. From visa paperwork to finding schools, Ryan and Louise faced their fair share of challenges. But they were determined to give their children something more — a bilingual upbringing, an outdoor lifestyle, and the courage to take bold risks.
“We sold everything we owned to start over. It was scary, but freeing,” Ryan said. “Now we live lighter, spend more time outdoors, and feel more present with our kids. It’s been the best decision we’ve made.”
Their children are now enrolled in local Spanish schools, immersing themselves in a new culture and language. For Ryan, it’s not just about building a business in the sun — it’s about creating a life filled with purpose, balance, and joy.
Life in the Costa del Sol: A Simpler, Healthier Way to Live
Between family life, business coaching, and daily walks in the Mediterranean breeze, Ryan has embraced a new rhythm. Gone are the days of the “keeping up with the Joneses” mindset. Instead, he’s found contentment in simplicity, fewer possessions, more experiences, and a community of like-minded families who’ve made similar moves.
“The sun, the lifestyle, even the chaos, it’s all part of the adventure,” Ryan smiled. “It’s about being bold enough to ask: what if we tried something different?”
Thinking About Relocating to Spain?
Ryan’s story is a powerful reminder that success isn’t about accumulation, it’s about alignment. If you’re considering relocating your business or family to southern Spain, take inspiration from his journey. With careful planning, the right visa, and a supportive network, you can transform a dream into a reality.
